Date/Time : 13 June 16:30-18:00

Location : Online webinar (link to be sent via email 1 week prior to the event)

Maximum participants : 30

Use this RSVP form to sign-up for the event.

This webinar presents the Singapore story and provides an opportunity to share lessons learned with others that face similar challenges in policy design, building a compelling narrative to sell to the public, and strategy for organizing and mobilizing in different social and political environments.

The format of the Webinar will be a presentation followed by Q&A discussion. Reading material handout will be sent 2 weeks in advance and participants will have the opportunity to suggest topics to be covered during the session.

The material will provide a brief overview of Singapore's economy and emissions profile, current government policy and policy critiques by local NGOs. One such proposal, Singapore's Green New Deal will be presented as a case study. Finally the social and political context and lessons learned from advocates will be presented and open areas for further work and learning opportunity.

For the preparation of the materials and to design the facilitated discussion, we’d love to hear from you on your experience and your views about Green New Deal and climate change activism by filling up this survey.

In the first part of the survey, we’d like to get to know a little about you, the second part is about Green New Deal policy and the final part is about advocating for the just transition. This survey should take less than 10 min to complete.

The event is being organized by Taylor Hickem (LinkedIn) a local volunteer from Green New Deal Singapore (website).

Who should attend?

This Webinar is for anyone interested to learn about Singapore's climate action story. The event is intended for anyone active in pursuing greater ambition from policy makers and interested in Green New Deal policy.

What is Green New Deal Singapore, what do you do?

Green New Deal Singapore is a project to publish a Green New Deal report for Singapore, similar to what was done for Green New Deal for Europe. The report aims to present a policy proposal with sufficient detail that businesses, households and policy makers are able to understand how it will work, how it would affect them and what they would need to do in order to make the Green New Deal a reality. Policy should be a co-created representation of the public so the way the report is built involves a mix of research and public engagement activities. In April this year a draft report on decarbonization was published and in partnership with greenlobang a private webinar was organized to share the information with local advocacy groups. The project is volunteer organized with roles available for research, writing and social media. Opportunity is available for partners that share an interest in the work for roles in media, academia and related social justice and environment cause organizations.
